The Ladeira family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Maria Da Luz Duarte Ladeira surrounded by her family on September 24, 2022. Maria Da Luz married her childhood sweetheart on March 19, 1960 by proxy in Silvares, Portugal. Maria Da Luz joined her husband in Canada on January 18, 1961.
She will forever be remembered by her loving family: husband, Jose B. Ladeira; son, Jose A. Ladeira (Catherine Kayden); and grandchildren, Miguel and Liam Ladeira; daughter, Lucy Ladeira; sisters, Herminia Sardinha, Maria Jose (Antonio Delgado), Irene (Fernando Silvestre); brother, Agostinho Duarte (Ceu); brother-in-law, Antonio Ladeira.
Maria was predeceased by her brother, Jose Duarte; brother-in-law, Joaquin Sardinha; sister-in-law, Maria Rosario Ladeira; nephew, Jose Sardinha; Godson, Joaquim Nunes.
Maria worked with her husband on the orchard for many years from the time she arrived in Canada until retirement. Maria was a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada and a member of Holy Child Parish where she would volunteer frequently. Maria enjoyed travelling to Portugal to see various family throughout the country. Maria also travelled to Vancouver, Victoria, Ottawa, Toronto, Disneyland and Disneyworld. She loved to crochet, do needlepoint and grow various plants in the house when not working in the orchard. She will be truly be missed by all that have known her.
Prayers will be said on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Holy Child Catholic Church, Summerland, BC. Burial will follow at the Canyon View Cemetery.
