Peacefully on May 29 Maria Froese passed on to the next life surrounded by the love of family.
Maria Ginter was born July 4, 1949 in the Canadiense Mennonite colony in Loma Plata, Chaco, Paraguay to Philip and Elizabeth (Groening) Ginter. In 1955, Maria travelled with her family across the Andes Mountains, to establish one of the original Mennonite colonies located near Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
Maria moved a lot and in 1985, relocated to Manitoba, Canada, where she moved between Niverville and Grunthal before finally settling in Winnipeg.
Despite right-side flaccid paralysis left from childhood polio, Maria was an avid volunteer in her community; dedicating over 22 years of volunteer service to Harvest Manitoba, formerly Winnipeg Harvest. Maria also spent several years volunteering with various Mennonite Central Community Stores.
Maria had an avid love for the outdoors and enjoyed walking everywhere regardless of the season. She spent countless hours walking with her children and grandchildren to parks and playgrounds.
Maria lived a life characterized by pure determination, adaptability and courage as she learned multiple languages living in multiple societies and adapted to health limitations. Those that knew her well saw her incredible strength and fierce determination, which carried her through a battle against two forms of cancer in her final days.
Maria was predeceased by her parents; Philip (1997) and Elizabeth (2003) Ginter and her son Jacob (1985). Maria is survived by her children Betty (David), Helena, and Alfredo (Jolene) and grandchildren, Lynea, Brayden, Henry, Alistair and Armand; brother Abraham (Tina), sister Helena (Dietrich) and many nieces and nephews.
The immediate family will be holding a private memorial at Brookside Cemetery, as organized by Friends Funeral Service. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial donations can be directed to Harvest Manitoba.
