Maria (nee Ghersini) passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the age of 89. She will be greatly missed by her husband Bruno of 59 years, daughters Astrid and Karen (Myron), grandchildren Alina, Nicholas, and Isabelle, and her brother Franco (Barbara), and dear relatives in Europe.
Maria was born in Parenzo, Italy, to Antonia and Giuseppe and grew up in her beloved Dignano. Maria was one of seven siblings, predeceased by Norina, Gianna, Marcello, Gina and Anita. Together with her husband Bruno, and their 28-day old daughter Astrid, Maria arrived in Canada to start a new life. With much hard work and love, they created a special bond able to face whatever challenges came their way. Maria’s dedication and devotion to her family created a beautiful life full of memories. Maria was a genuinely beautiful person with the warmest heart who welcomed everyone with open arms. She faced challenges with strength, courage, dignity, and elegance. She taught us that to love each other costs nothing. We miss her dearly. Rest in peace our sweet angel.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6S 1P4 on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, April 26 at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery – 7300 Highway #27 Woodbridge, Ontario L4L 1A5.
