Maria Antonella Bommarito 2022

After a courageous personal journey with Hodgkin lymphoma lasting over thirteen years, our brave warrior Maria passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Treasured daughter of Josephine and Salvatore Bommarito, cherished sister of Jack and Diana Bommarito and Angela and Steven Bonsma. Dearest aunt of Aidan, Isaiah, Fiona, Dorian Bommarito and Salvatore and Marco Bonsma. Beloved niece of Filippo and Giovanna Vella, Lilla and Germano Fasolo (2017), Franco and Mariella Bommarito, Clemente and Enza Bommarito. She will be forever missed by her cousins Anthony Vella, Maria Vella, and many other cousins in Italy. Maria is now in the arms of her loving Nonni, Maria and Antonino Vella and Angela and Giacomo Bommarito.
Maria was a Registered Dental Hygienist with the Windsor-Es County Health Unit Oral Health team, and a former Dental Hygiene educator at St. Clair College.
Education and dental hygiene were her passion, travelling the world was her love. Maria was an executive member of the Windsor Es County Dental Hygienists Society (Community Outreach), and a former member of the Windsor Oral Health Advisory Committee. She advocated in support of cancer research and clinical trials, and was a proud Woman Ambassador for the 2020 Windsor Regional Cancer Centre Lock Out Cancer Campaign.
Throughout her cancer journey, Maria touched the lives of many people. She had an unforgettable smile. A strong, determined woman who would not be defined by her illness: a true inspiration to other cancer patients and to all of us.
We would like to extend a special thanks to her cousins Maria Vella and Angela Lapico for their outpouring of love and support.
A heartfelt thank you to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre team and the Oncology 4 West staff whose compassionate care made Maria feel at home. A whole-hearted thank you to the nurses and staff of the Hospice and ParaMed for their outstanding care.
We will be forever grateful to Dr. Caroline Hamm whose relentless, exceptional ongoing care allowed Maria to live a full life.
As per Maria’s wishes, a private family service has taken place at Families First (South Windsor location). A Celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Donations to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre, the Hospice of Windsor, or donations of blood in her memory would be appreciated by the family.
