Marguerite (Peggy) McKeown passed from this world on February 2nd, 2022 at 2 am after spending Family Day weekend surrounded by family.
Born in Moncton NB October 26th, 1924 to Frances and Robert Sharpe. Mom had a long and wonderful 97 years of life. She kept in touch with 4 friends from school all her life.
She met Doug McKeown Jan 3rd,1950 playing badminton with friends at the Y in Moncton NB. They were engaged on Valentine’s Day, married in June and together for 56 happy years. Mom always enjoyed time with her family and took an interest in everyone’s lives. Daughters; Cathy (Andy) Wicksted of Midland, Mary Newman of Hamilton, Dorothy of Barrie, and son Jack of London. She welcomed not only friends but our varied menagerie of pets. She enjoyed camping at the Pinery and time spent with her grandchildren, Lee, Graeme, Matt, Elley, Craig, Scott, and Aaron. Mom enjoyed telling a good story, needlepoint, golfing and traveling with dad, playing bridge, hiking, and photography with their many friends. She liked to be involved from an early age as President of Phi Beta Cappa, and later on planning committees at Grace United Church in Sarnia. After Doug’s passing she moved to Hamilton to be closer to her family, and enjoyed drives in the country, visiting the RBG, and reading.
We’d like to thank the staff at Idlewyld Manor for their kind, compassionate care in her later years.
A funeral service will be held March 15th 11:30 am at Barton Stone – Mount Hope United Church, 21 Stone Church Rd West, Hamilton. Reception to follow in the church hall. Memories and condolences may be expressed on the Bay Gardens, Rymal Rd, website. If you wish, donations to a charity of your choice can be made in lieu of flowers.
