Obituary of Margaret Roney
Margaret Roney
February 18, 1944 – January 30, 2022
On January 30th, 2022 we lost the greatest person in our life, our mother, Margaret Rose Roney (Margo as everyone knew her) at the young age of 77.
How do we begin to write about our mom, the woman who wore a coat of many colours. We truly need to write a novel. What we can say is, she was unique, fiercely independent, and a beautiful person. She loved her family, she loved life itself, and never took for granted what tomorrow would bring.
Regardless of having only received her Grade 4 education, she achieved so much in life. She was a Go-Go dancer in the 60’s (Margo-a-go-go), an accomplished seamstress throughout her life, she had a rewarding career with Dalhousie University and in the end ran a successful home business.
Mom was probably best known for her outgoing personality. Her love of entertaining was her biggest joy. So it was no surprise to us when our dad (Cliff) and mom both ventured into “Oceanside Bed and Breakfast” for almost 20 years. What stories she could tell.
Her involvement with the Qalipu First Nation as a founding member kept her rooted to her homeland, and although we wished for her to move closer to her family, we knew in our hearts that she would never leave. Mom had many close friends and family, some who we are very thankful for, that kept over her when we couldn’t. We know who you are and your kindness will never be forgotten.
She will be lovingly missed, and survived by her three children: David Brazzell (Hope), Danny Brazzell (Jodi), and Shannon Boland-Musseau (Sheldon). Her grandchildren: Kye Dorey (Emily), Jeremy Elliott (Erika), Savannah Stiles (Paul), Julia & Karlee Elliott, Josh & Sam Greenough, Summer Boland-Musseau, and special mention to Andrew, Matthew & Jorgia King whom she loved as much as her own. Her only great-granddaughter Sawyer Dorey. She is also survived by her sisters: Mercedes & Venetia, brothers: Donald & Alphonse.
She was predeceased by her late husband David Clifton Roney (Cliff), and by her parents Walter & Margaret King, sisters: Beatrice, Cecelia, Stella, Loretta, brother: Ronnie.
A sacred ceremony has been performed.
Church service on Friday, May 27, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Chapel, Flat Bay with Fr. Dantes presiding. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Flat Bay, NL.
Please join us as there will be a reception following the burial in the People’s Complex, next door to the Church.
Mom celebrated life about as well as anyone could and was always the life of the party. So, in her honor, please join us all in raising a glass and making a toast to our great mother and your great friend, “Margo”.
