Obituary of Margaret Koop
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Koop on January 17, 2022, at the age of 94 years.
Left to cherish Margaret’s memory are her children Velda (Doug), Harold (Trudy); seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Margaret was predeceased by husband Peter; son Ernest; five brothers and five sisters.
Margaret was born April 19, 1927, to Herman and Katharina Wall at Lake Saskatoon, near Wembley Alberta. She was the first child born in Canada to a family of five brothers and seven sisters.
After 17 years of farming in the Wembley area, the family moved to Tofield, where they continued to farm. It was in Tofield that Margaret met and married Peter Koop in 1944. They farmed northwest of Tofield and raised three children, daughter Velda and sons Ernest and Harold.
In 1972 Margaret and Peter retired from the farm and moved into Tofield.
Family, church and community were very important to Margaret. She served as deaconess in the church for several years. Her many friends and family remember her love of cooking and hostessing, and the success of Club 55 plus, which became a treasured community event. Margaret was dedicated to quilting, gathering with her fiends to make blankets, which were distributed by MCC to needy countries. She was active in the Walk for Wellness community rehabilitation program and was recognized as an outstanding volunteer by the Vegreville Health Unit for ten years of service, assisting in long-term care and the hospital.
Margaret loved gardening and many enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens. She will be remembered by her grandchildren for her love of playing board games and her competitiveness while doing so.
Margaret and Peter enjoyed travels to many European and American destinations, and it was a joy to share their adventures and memories.
As her health deteriorated, Margaret moved from her home in Tofield to Sunshine Villa for a short time and then on to St. Thomas Continuing Care in Edmonton. The music sessions she enjoyed with Chaplain Donville there were a special blessing to her. She looked forward to visiting with pastor Ken Stumph, family and friends.
Margaret lived a full life and will be dearly missed. The lessons she taught us and the love and faith she shared will live on in our hearts forever.
To all of us she was a special person – a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a great-great-grandmother, an aunt and a special friend. Our loss is her gain – she has gone Home to Heaven, free from pain and suffering.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers in St. Mary’s Hospital Camrose, St. Thomas Health Centre, Grey Nuns Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Edmonton General Hospice Unit for their kindness and care to Margaret and their support to the family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Tofield Community Church 4619 57 Ave Tofield.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Margaret
