Margaretha Johanna Wallace, 81, of
Moncton, passed away peacefully with her loving
husband Jim at her side, on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at the
Moncton Hospital. Margaretha was born in Utrecht, Netherlands to the
late Hubertus and Petronella (Tak) Bouma.
She immigrated to Canada in 1952 and
spent her first 5 years in Bathurst, before moving to Fredericton
where she would meet her future husband
Jim.
As a native of the Netherlands,
Margaretha had a natural love of flowers. In 1974 she opened
Champlain Florist as one of the original tenants of Champlain Place
and later moved the business to a heritage home on the corner of Cross
Street and Elmwood Drive. Immensely talented and artistic, she left an
impression, both on her customers and on her
staff.
A lover of the open air, water and
sunshine, Margaretha cherished spending time at the cottage in Grand
Barachois. She and husband Jim spent many winter holidays in the
Caribbean and enjoyed great parties and photo sharing at the cottage
with their group of friends.
She was a wonderful wife, mom, Oma,
sister and friend. We have lost a piece of ourselves but, we know that
she will always be with us. We will look for her in a pretty flower, a
colourful bird, and a beautiful sunset.
“Goodnight
Liefje”
She will be sadly missed by her
husband James “Jim” Wallace of 58 years; her
children John Wallace of Moncton and Cyndi Wallace
Carney (Jason) of Grand Barachois;
her cherished grandchildren Melanie Wallace,
Maddison and Alexandra Carney; her sisters Catharina Christie and
Johanna Wedge; sisters in- law Josee Bouma, Margaret Hayes (Daryl),
and Barbara Cormier (Jerry), as well as many nieces, nephews and
extended family.
In addition to her parents,
Margaretha was predeceased by her brother Adriaanus and sister
Elizabeth, her brother in-law Bill and sister in-law
Sandra.
Visitation will be
held from Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd.
Moncton NB, (858-1995) on Monday, August 8,
2022 from 6:00
