Margaret Caroline Sutherland (nee: Cross), known to most as Maggie, passed away suddenly on January 19 th, 2022, at the age of 70. Maggie was born in Toronto, Ontario and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the only child to the late Alice and Sandy Cross. She adored her parents and was the light of their lives. She was a loving mother to her two children, Alexandra and Patrick; she and her first husband Dennis filled their childhoods with love and laughter. She made every event a celebration, and she proudly watched as they grew into adults. Maggie received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Manitoba, but music was her passion. She was an accomplished cellist and pianist, and studied with the Royal Conservatory of Music and at the Banff School of Fine Arts. Maggie loved her days as a member of the Etobicoke Centennial Choir and as the accompanist for the choirs at Islington United Church in Toronto, her children’s schools, and the Kiwanis Festival. Through music she met and married her beloved husband, the late Robert “Bobby” Edwards. Together they travelled, made music, and shared their talents with their students at their music schools in Toronto and Bolton. They were wholehearted animal lovers, from fish to parrots to cats, and especially dogs: she spent countless hours trying to rescue as many as she could. Maggie lived up to her fabulous red hair. She was funny, feisty, and open-hearted. She was a true artist, guided by her own creativity and independent spirit. She once said that no matter what was going on in the reality of the world, she woke up every day feeling happy. She laughed through everything and with everyone around her. Her laugh will be her legacy. The family would like to thank the staff at Mackenzie Place Long Term Care Home for their steadfast care. She left a lasting mark on their community. Maggie’s memory will live on in the hearts of her children, Alexandra and Patrick (Kim), her extended family, and her friends, old and new. She will be fondly remembered by her stepchildren, Carey, Scott (Monique) and Holly (David). She is now reunited with her parents and her loving husband, Bobby, whom she was missing so much. The family will receive friends at Rod Abrams Funeral Home 1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham 905-936-3477, on Wednesday January 26, 2022 from 12 – 12:30pm, and 12:30 – 1pm.
