The family announces with great sorrow her passing in Sudbury, Friday, December 16, 2022 at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of husband William “Bill” Sinclair of Sudbury. Loving mother of Bob Sinclair (Monique) of Espanola, Dan Sinclair of Sudbury, Jim Sinclair (Vida) of Toronto and Jill Ransom (Chris) of Sudbury. Dear sister of Jean MacDonald (Rod). Cherished grandmother of Caleigh Yorke (Graham), Patrick (Stephanie), Tyler, Wil, Jordan, Lexi (Nic), Riley and great-grandmother of Mason, Nathan and Sophia. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mom’s early years were wonderful, spending time on the shores of Lang Lake, fishing with her Dad and Grandpa and having family time at the homestead in Thessalon. She loved school and excelled academically. In high school, she was active in sports and cheerleading. She married the love of her life in 1957 and together they raised us in a happy home with holidays and birthdays celebrated with extended family. Mom had amazing friends and spent her best days sitting poolside, golfing, curling, playing cards, traveling with dad, listening to Englebert, sipping tea, scrapbooking and laughing with her “lunch bunch.” Fridays were always romantic with fondue for two. She and dad spent many years wintering in Florida with a great group of lifelong friends at Caribay. Mom’s greatest love was family. She was a devoted, selfless mother, sister, auntie, grandma and “gam gams,” fiercely proud of us all. She was a talented seamstress and knitter, making costumes, graduation dresses and the coziest sweaters and mittens. Her grandchildren will fondly remember the Big Red Tub full of soapy suds. She had craft kits and activities galore and never forgot the neighbors’ kids at Halloween and Christmas. Joanie had a love of everything Scottish, from tartans to shortbread cookies and cherished her ancestral trip to Scotland with Jimmy where she finally met her childhood pen pal, Margaret. Mom was dad’s personal assistant and secretary after he left the firm and went out on his own. Together, they ran a very successful and informal accounting practice with dad in wind pants and the family dog always close by. “Ootsie” as she was commonly called, was a gentle lady with a sweet smile and strength beyond comprehension. We will cherish everything that mom was and her legacy lives on in all of us. LYDA. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place at the Cooperative Crematorium. Donations by cheque or online to Maison McCulloch Hospice will be appreciated. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca.
