Margaret Rose Mortson (nee Canning) passed away peacefully at home beside her loving husband Neil. Margaret and Neil met in public school and lived lovingly and happily devoted to one another for 63 years. Cherished mother to daughters Robin and Roseann and son-in-law Mark. Treasured Nanny to grandson Antwon. Dear daughter to the late Treanor and Sadie. Loving sister to big brother Lloyd (Audrey) and late brother Don (Norma). Margaret was born and raised on the family farm at 19th Avenue and Leslie Street, Richmond Hill. Margaret attended SS#4 School, Richmond Hill High School, Shaw School of Business and the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. In her early years Margaret worked at Rice’s Flowers, Richmond Hill, but later left to be the faithful caregiver to her parents and family. Margaret had a great love for music and was a very active, involved, and devout member of Victoria Square United Church, Markham. Her strong faith and dedication to her church was expressed in many ways, but most joyfully through her work as organist and choir director. Margaret was kind, compassionate and caring, and will be remembered for her endearing friendship to many. Margaret selflessly put others before herself and never hesitated to offer her guidance, support and assistance to family and friends in need. Margaret was a wonderful cook and was always an energetic presence at church potlucks and annual Turkey Dinners. She was revered for her delicious pies and crowd pleasing butter tarts. Margaret’s gentle spirit and loving smile will be dearly missed, but the precious memories she has imprinted on so many will live forever.
