Margaret Mary Pearce Saturday March 12th 2022

We are saddened to announce the passing of our mom, Margaret Mary Pearce (nee McDonald) on Saturday, March 12, 2022. After a private battle with cancer, she died at home surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by her three loving children Rob, Jennifer (Jason) Garatti, Adam (Lisa) and cherished grandchildren Tyler, Lucas, Zoe, Nexie and Lachlan. She was adored by numerous nephews and nieces.
Daughter of the late Claude and Mildred McDonald. She was predeceased by her sister Florence and brother Gary. Surviving siblings are Frances (Paul), Carolyn (Tony), Betty (Bill), Robert (Debbie), Sandra (Earl-deceased), and Michael (Charlotte).Marg was born and raised on a dairy farm in Cornwall, Ontario. She started her teaching career there at the young age of 17, followed by placements in Oshawa and Whitby, before she settled in Thunder Bay in 1969. Marg had a long-distinguished career teaching in the Elementary schools for the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board. She no doubt touched the lives of many students before retiring in 1998.
Marg had a zest for adventure evidenced by her extensive travels. She swam with sharks in the Galapagos Islands, hiked the Camino trail in Spain, trekked up to Machu Pichu, , paddled the Keele River in the NWT, walked sections of the Great Wall of China , rode horseback in Iceland, toured Austria, Slovenia, the Channel Islands, the East Coast of Canada, Cambodia, Vietnam, Ireland and Scotland to name a few.
Marg was especially fond of her friendships with the bridge and golf ladies. She also took great pride in her gardening, maintaining her large property, dancing, book club and her DIY projects.
Her grandkids will cherish their memories of spending time with their Gramma, skiing, biking, golfing, camping, playing games, reading, swimming, gardening, hiking, travelling and trips to the park. She cheered them on at all their sports and activities.
Our mom was strong, independent, generous to a fault, loving, patient, helpful, always there for anyone that needed her, hardworking, practical and a true role model for all of us. She will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sargent and Son’s Reception Hall 21 N. Court St on this Friday, March 18, 2022 from 2:30-4:30. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dew Drop Inn.

  1. I am one of Margaret’s many cousins (from Ottawa). My husband Rick and I extend our deepest sympathies to Robert, Jennifer, and Adam. Margaret was such a lovely woman and we were so sorry to hear of her health difficulties. Also, our sincerest condolences to Frances, Carolyn, Betty, Robert, Sandra and Michael. A profound loss for all.
