Margaret Mary Davidson Cloney Saturday June 11th 2022

DAVIDSON, Margaret Mary (nee CLONEY) –
March 28, 1950 – June 11, 2022
“Our Margie” left this life peacefully the morning of June 11, 2022, in Palliative Care at Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents: Robert and Frances Cloney (nee Donegan), and by her beloved husband, Brian. She is survived by her dear son, Gavin, cherished grandchildren Abigail and Alistair, siblings Vincent Cloney (Vivien) and Frances Kolentsis, nieces Alysia Kolentsis (Michael Crosby) and Neola Kolentsis, and nephews Nathan Cloney (Mel) and Ross Cloney (Sally). Margaret also leaves a wide network of treasured cousins and friends in the UK and Canada. She will be fondly remembered and missed by all of her friends near and far.
Margaret was born and raised in Bootle, Liverpool, England, the youngest of three siblings. She met Brian, the love of her life, at age 15. They married young in 1969 and happily built a life together, welcoming their son Gavin in 1974. The young family moved to Toronto in 1975, where they lived close to Marg’s sister Fran and her family. The doors to their home in North York were always open to friends and family for celebrations and special occasions. Margaret worked for many years at ADT in Toronto. In retirement, she and Brian moved to Whitby in 2002. Throughout her life, Marg always kept close ties with family and friends back home in Liverpool, and the Isle of Man.
After Brian’s passing in 2003, Marg found much solace in her faith, as a regular parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Parish, Whitby, often attending daily mass. Quick to make friends, she enjoyed an active social life with the coffee group, and soon found her way into the hearts and homes of many. Loyal and generous in her friendship and with her time, “Auntie Marg” gave the best bear hugs, and was always up for a good story, or chin-wag over a beverage or two. She especially enjoyed her travels with her niece Alysia to the Cloney Family Reunion in Liverpool in 2001, Spain, with friends to Rome, Tuscany, Ireland, North Bay, and to visit Gavin and family in Vietnam, and Collingwood. True to her hard-working Bootle roots, feisty Marg always called a spade a spade, often with the wag of her finger, but always with love and compassion. When she loved, she loved fiercely and would be by your side through thick and thin. Throughout her brave fight with the cancer that claimed her life, Marg was in turn, lovingly cared for by her family and friends, and medical staff, who made sure she never had to walk alone.
Arrangements have been entrusted to W.C. Town Funeral Chapel, Whitby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Margaret at St. John the Evangelist Parish, 903 Giffard Street, Whitby, Ontario on Monday June 20th at 11 am. Livestream will be provided on the Parish Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/channel/UCmek-bkCv91AX_g0V5hZzxg. Cremation and Reception to follow. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society (St. John the Evangelist Whitby Conference – svdptoronto.org/) or St. Vincent Pallotti’s Kitchen/Durham Outlook for the Needy (durhamoutlook.com/donate) in Margaret’s memory would be appreciated. 1. Many happy memories of afternoons spent with Margie and Brian in Bootle … before and after they were married … in the Sixties. Both remembered with fondness.
