It is with great sadness that
the family of Margaret MacDonald announce her peaceful passing at the
age of 101 at her Serenacare home in Moncton on January 23,
2022.
Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia,
raised in nearby Reserve Mines, Margaret was the daughter of the late
John Thomas MacLeod and Mary Florence MacLeod (Munroe). She was
predeceased by her husband of 57 years Rev. Charles Dawson MacDonald
and by her sister Christine Reid
(MacLeod).
Margaret treasured all her
family and will be sorely missed by her brother Gordon MacLeod (the
late Gladys MacLeod and the late Helen MacLeod) of Yarmouth NS,
daughters Colleen McLaren of Ajax, ON and Sheila Snider of Moncton,
NB, grandchildren Danny Snider, Marna Beaver (Tim), Meaghan
McLaren (John), Meredith McLaren (Shahin), 7 great grandchildren and 3
great great granddaughters; as well her many cousins,
nieces, nephews and friends all dear to
her.
Margaret led a full and
interesting life and expressing gratitude for her many blessings was
very important to her. She often recalled her wonderful parents and
childhood, life with Dawson and the “adventures of a minister’s
wife”, fun and laughter, too many stories and cups of tea to
count! A devoted wife, Mum, Grandma and Nana,
Margaret was happiest when surrounded by
family.
Margaret was a graduate of
Acadia University, worked in Washington, DC for the British Government
until 1945, then married in 1947. Margaret and Dawson lived
and served in United Church pastorates in many communities (Bermuda,
Nappan & Florence NS, Verdun QC, Moncton NB and North Sydney
NS) where they formed long and cherished friendships. Retirement
brought them home to Cape Breton then on to Moncton in
2002.
Margaret loved the outdoors,
especially a fresh snow fall, summers in the trailer and on the golf
course. Bridge, Scrabble and Skipbo were game favorites (especially if
she won!). Her artistic talents revealed themselves in her knitting,
painting, ceramics and home decor. She loved to collect antiques.
Margaret’s quick wit, determined spirit and graciousness remained
until the end. She was strong in her faith and a member of Visions
United where she enjoyed many years of
fellowship.
Margaret’s family would like to
thank all the staff of Serenacare, her home for the past 2 years, for
their affectionate care, kindness and
companionship.
In Margaret’s memory, donations
to Visions United Church, 140 Joyce Ave – Suite 142, Moncton NB E1A
7H4 (visionsunited.ca) or
the charity of your choice would be
appreciated.
Arrangements are under the care
and direction of Fergusons Funeral Home, Moncton, NB. Margaret will
join Dawson in the Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, NS. Due to
current Covid 19 restrictions celebrations will be announced and held
at a later date. Online condolences for the family can be
shared at

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Margaret MacDonald MacLeod 2022..
