Margaret’s Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of the late Margaret Lavhey (nee Lomond) announce her peaceful passing on Friday, June 3rd, 2022 at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL at the age of 89 years. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, Margaret was the daughter of the late Jacob and Lucy Lomond (nee Harris). She was also predeceased by her husband; Samuel Joseph Lavhey, brother; Gordon (Sadie) Lomond, father and mother-in-law; John and Florence Lavhey, brother-in-law; Jim Musseau, sister-in-law; Mary (Abner) Mullins, nephews; William Mullins, Amos Collier, Clarence Dowding and niece; Annette (Alvin) Kettle.
She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children; Gordon (Marlene) Lavhey of McIvers, NL, Brenda (Don) Grandy of Cow Bay, NS, Wilson (Tammy) Lavhey of Sackville, NS, Henry (Sadie) Lavhey of Port aux Basques, NL, Jeanette (Murray) MacAskill of Lloydminster, AB, brother; Roland (Roxanna) Lomond of Moncton, NB; sister; Pearl Musseau of Port aux Basques, NL, plus a large circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family and many friends.
Margaret made some lasting friendships while she ran a boarding house. She was well known for her hospitality; always serving large meals to her guests. Her hobbies that she enjoyed were; sewing, knitting sweaters and quilting of which she was doing up to the time her health started to fail her. All family members love to receive one of her quilts. She enjoyed her earlier years; traveling each summer in the motorhome with her family, visiting friends across the island and Nova Scotia picking apples. She always welcomed friends and family from afar to stay with her making them feel very comfortable. Her kindness and compassion was always noticed by all. Margaret was a loyal member of St. James Anglican Church, The Anglican Church Woman Association, The Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
The family would like to say a special thank you to her care-workers; Tiana Keeping and Hope Gallant. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Al Nabbot and the staff of the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre for their kindness and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 7th at 2 pm from St. James Anglican Church, Channel-Port aux Basques officiated by Rev. Jane Allen. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret can be made to the St. James Anglican Church or to the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre.
