Margaret Joan Wilson Gauld June 6 1934 October 24 2022 (age 88)

Obituary
Joan was pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Chuck, on October 16, 2022.
She is survived by her brother Gordon (Emily) Wilson; daughters Charlene Gauld, and Joanne (Jason) Poloway, and stepson Glenn (Iris) Anderson. Grandchildren Andrew, Danielle, Patrick, Nolan, Dawson, Jaxon, and Jacob. Great grandchildren Austin and Adan. Niece Jennifer (Cameron) Wilson Prentice, nephew Mark Wilson, and great-nephews Emmett and Callum.
Joan was born in Dublin, Ireland, and emigrated to Canada in 1955. She landed in Hamilton, ON, and eventually made her way west where she met her “cowboy” Chuck. They were married in 1959. At that time Joan worked for the Gas Company (what is now Atco). After Calgary, they moved to Vernon, BC where they opened Hillcrest Porcelain Imports. Nanaimo was next where Joan worked for the Pacific Biological Station. Onto Williams Lake BC where Joan started her job as a stenographer with the RCMP. She continued to work for the RCMP in Edmonton after the family’s move to St. Albert AB. By 1990 they were back in Calgary where Joan retired from the RCMP in 1997. In 2000, they decided to move to Shediac, NB after a visit and to be closer to Charlene and her family. They enjoyed the early years of their retirement travelling the East Coast of Canada. They came back to Calgary for a few years and then headed to Abbotsford, BC to be closer to her brother Gordon and his family. Let’s be honest, the weather is a little nicer there in the winter than in Calgary! Chuck and Joan enjoyed an Alaskan cruise on their 50th Anniversary with Gordon and Emily. In 2019, Chuck and Joan moved one final time, back to Calgary.
Joan was a loyal and forever friend to all those she met along her journey. She kept in touch with friends and relatives with her annual Christmas letter which would chronicle the comings and goings of the Gauld family. I think it was often used as a change of address card as well!
Family was everything to Joan. She was the biggest cheerleader for her children. Her unconditional love and support allowed them to follow the path they chose, knowing she was always there to provide advice if asked. She will always be known in family circles for her chocolate chip banana bread, which was always well received by the grandchildren and great-nephews and became the “currency” of our family!
The family would like to thank the staff at the Foothills Stroke unit and the Palliative care team for the exceptional care mom received in her final days.
A Celebration of Life for both Chuck and Joan will be held on September 1, 2023.
