It is with deep sadness that we announce the
passing of our dear mother, Margaret Isabel (O’Connor)
Connolly, age 96, of Guysborough Intervale, who died peacefully at
home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 22,
2022.
Born March 14, 1926, North Riverside Road, she was the
daughter of the late John O’Connor and Mary Marr
(Whitman).
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Altar Society for
many years and enjoyed working together with the ladies fundraising
and volunteering for many special occasions. She was a devoted
Catholic with great faith and very dedicated to her daily prayers. Her
smile was warm and gentle. She was very graceful and soft spoken but
her inner strength was evident and would shine through, especially
during difficult times. She had a remarkable memory and could describe
vivid details of past cherished stories where her witty personality
would be portrayed.
She was an avid card player and loved countless games of
auction 45 with friends and family. Many laughs and big meals that she
prepared were shared around the kitchen table. Mom and Dad
looked forward to going to many card plays and community dances over
the years.
Mom was a homemaker and a nurturing mother who worked hard to
raise 9 children along with the many demanding chores a farm life
brings, but she always brought a smile to her many grandchildren with
her famous molasses cookies. To have grandchildren close by was always
a true blessing to our mom.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 74 years,
Kenneth, and 7 children: Theresa, St. John, NB; Philip (Mary),
Guysborough Intervale; Martin, Antigonish; Dorothy Delorey,
Antigonish; Joanne (John Davis), CT; Laura (Charlie Gabriel), Lower
Sackville; Alice (Art Embree), Dartmouth; daughters-in-law, Rose
Connolly, Antigonish and Maxine Connolly, Guysborough Intervale;
sister, Elizabeth (Sam Crowshaw), Grande Prairie; sisters-in-law,
Agnes O’Connor, Guysborough and Josie O’Connor,
Antigonish.
She was loved by 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews, with special thanks to Maureen for her
loving support.
She was predeceased by daughter, Virginia; sons, Jerome and
Peter; son-in-law, Joe Delorey, great-granddaughter, Gwyneth Bowie;
brothers, Bernard, Lawrence, Joseph, John and Dave; sister, Catherine
and brother-in-law, Robert Fitzpatrick; sister-in-law, Evelyn
O’Connor.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ranjini, the wonderful
nurses and staff at the Guysborough Home Support Agency, especially
Mary Ann, Lisa, Kim and the Palliative Care team. A special thank you
to Shirley for her loving compassionate care and dedication she showed
to our mom.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 27 from 2-4 and 6-9
p.m. in St. Patrick’s Hall, Guysborough Intervale and from
where funeral mass will be Monday, March 28 at 11 a.m. with her
nephew, Father Anthony O’Connor officiating. Burial in the
parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St.
Patrick’s Building Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of
