Mom passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 4, 2022 at the blessed age of 99 years and 10 months.
She was born in Stirling (near Glasgow) in Scotland on April 25, 1922 and was married to her husband, George, on November 30, 1945 when he was home on leave from serving in North Africa. Margaret had two children, Margaret born in 1947 and George born in 1956. The family immigrated to Canada in 1967 and settled in Elmwood.
Mom was an avid knitter and reader and her grandchildren all enjoyed her sweaters and cardigans. Mom and Dad enjoyed playing darts at the Legion for many years and playing cards with their social club in their senior’s apartment living, later years.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, George; her granddaughter Melanie, and son-in law David. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Margaret; son George (Irene); grandchildren Jeremy (Kim), Jordan (Nichole), Bonnie (Andrew), Jonathan (Caroline), and great-grandchildren Liam, Leighton, Marsali, De L’islay, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Rory, and Mya.
We would like to thank Dr. Darcy Johnson who looked after Mom over many years. We also are so appreciative of the caregivers at Irene Baron Eden Centre and River East PCH who were incredibly compassionate and caring to our mother. Special thanks to Paula, Diane and Ashley on Charity Road.
A memorial service will be held at the Church later in the spring when restrictions and weather allow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in Margaret’s memory, to “The Big Red Church” (Gordon-King Memorial United Church).
