She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Gary (Julia), Brad (Alanna), Christopher (Hollie), Shelby (Devon), Kaley (Kyle), Gracielyn, Lachlan, Kieran and Garrett; great-grandchildren, Mya, Bria, Ethan, Jase, Kasey, Violet and Hudson; lifelong friends, Elaine, Donna, Simone and Judy; special niece and nephew, Linda (David) and Gervase (Mary), who always made their ‘Auntie Moe’ feel so special.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Joe, Frankie and Roddie and sisters, Mary, Sarah and baby Catherine (in infancy).
Born March 13, 1932, in Whitney Pier, Sydney, NS, she was the daughter of the late Catherine (MacKinnon) and Giuseppe Chicorelli.
Ma was a proud, classy Whitney Pier girl. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 128, Whitney Pier and the ladies auxiliary. She enjoyed the casino, music and loved to dance!
Ma truly loved people and her greatest pride was her family and friends and was happiest when surrounded by them all enjoying her amazing cooking. Her door was always open to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. A woman of tremendous inner strength, she lived every day with a positive attitude and a strong faith in God. She loved to laugh and was a devoted mother and would do anything to help her children. Her genuine kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her smile was magical and she always had words of encouragement and saw the best in everyone! Throughout life’s challenges, she made the best of both the joys and sorrows with grace and dignity, holding steady to her values. She left behind a legacy of love and was much loved and adored by her children and will be greatly missed. Our hearts are broken.
Special thank you to Mom’s caregivers, Elaine, Deborah, Sarah and Jessica, City Homemakers, especially, Theresa, Freda and Gwen and the VON Sydney for their compassionate and loving care provided over the past year. Thank you to Dr. Matthew Ernst who supported our family centered care approach at home.
