Obituary
It is with great sadness that we share the news of Margaret’s sudden passing on July 31st. She leaves behind, broken hearted, her large family and many friends. Cherished mother of Lisa, Karen (Doug McElroy), and Laurie (Kevin Kozak). Much adored grandmother of Ambar and Amarys, Matthew, Jennifer (Michael Jensen), and Scott, William, Ellie, and David. Margaret was the beloved eldest child of Pat and Sam Legault and treasured older sister of Tony (Donna, deceased), Suzanne, Stephen (deceased) (Diane), Terry (Peter), and Jane (Bill, deceased). Margaret was born and raised in Coteau Station, Quebec, to the age of 8 before the family moved to Onaway Road in Port Credit. She made lifelong friends while attending elementary school and went on to complete Secondary School and Teacher’s College. She was married to John Harding from 1962 to 1984, and she raised her family in the Toronto Area. Margaret shared her gift of music with thousands of children as a music teacher with The Metropolitan Toronto School Board, where she again forged lifelong friendships with many of her colleagues. While working full-time as a teacher, Margaret played the organ at weekend masses, weddings, and funerals in several parishes, most notably Annunciation Parish. Through the 80’s, while still working full time, Margaret successfully completed her Honours Bachelor of Technological Studies. While taking her courses, she met Brian Goldthorpe and they spent many years together traveling, skiing, and enjoying the chalet in Huntsville. Upon her retirement, she selflessly dedicated most of her time to her grandchildren, helping with driving them wherever they needed to go and taking care of them when they were home sick from school. She had many hobbies to keep her busy and her mind sharp, for example, knitting, jigsaw puzzles, card games, iPad games, researching genealogies, sorting her many photographs, and watching CNN.
Margaret was an extraordinary woman with a heart of gold and a will of steel. She was loved and will be missed very much by all of those whose lives she touched.
There will be a visitation held this Friday, August 5 from 6 pm – 9 pm, at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home (64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, ON L6K 1E1). The funeral will be held at the same location on Saturday, August 6 at 11:00 am, followed by a reception, on the premises. Masks are not mandatory but encouraged. For those of you unable to attend in person, click the live stream link at the top of this page at the time of service. Margaret will be cremated, and her ashes will be placed with her beloved parents, Pat and Sam Legault, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity close to your heart in Margaret’s name.
