Margaret Alice Dunn February 6 1937 June 19 2022

Marg was born in Edmonton, the second child to William (Bill) and Mary Carnegie. Her mother was from Holland and her father was from Scottland. Marg graduated from Victoria Composite High School and participated in swimming, basketball, and speed skating. It was in Edmonton that she met and married Andrew (Drew) Dunn on July 21, 1962, after just 2 weeks of dating. She had her eye on him back in high school. Drew had two boys from a previous marriage Andrew (Andy) and Douglas (Doug), they were 6 and 5 at the time. They set up house and Drew returned to the Dew Line to fulfill the last 6 months of his contract. When that was done, he got a job in Dawson Creek with Canadian National Telecommunications, as a relief mechanic travelling the length of the Alaska Highway. While in Dawson Creek they welcomed Robert in April 1963, and after that Christopher in February 1967. They had left Dawson Creek in 1964 moving to several small towns in Alberta and eventually Black Diamond. After 5 years there (the longest they lived in one place up till then) they moved to Whitehorse in 1978. Drew was going to build a pipeline with Foothills. They loved the Yukon! After moving a couple times, they found the right place out at Marsh Lake at Old Constabulary. They lived there for over 25 Years. Drew died in 2013. Marg tried to keep the place on weekends but finally sold it in 2015 and stayed at the Athletes Village full time till 2021 when she was moved into the care of the kind folks at Whistle Bend Place. The dementia was affecting her health.
Over the years she worked off and on as a clerk, secretary, store manager, customs officer (at Fraser) loans officer, housewife and editor of Drew’s letters! She was involved in her sorority Beta Sigma Phi, the Eastern Star, Legion, and other charities. She volunteered as a fireperson (MLFD), at Golden Horn School Library, and Marsh Lake Community Association.
Marg’s assertiveness will be missed at many of the meetings of the Golden Age Society, Council on Aging and any of the organizations that we may have missed here. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter or an animal shelter near you.

  1. One fond memory I have of Aunt Marg is a trip that I made as a teenager to Rocky Mountain House to visit with my cousins and, generally, hang out. Aunt Marg arranged for my cousin Doug and I to build bicycles. It was fun and I went home with more money than I brought much to my Mom’s surprise. We also used to vacation together at their cabin at Sylvan Lake. I remember all of us riding to the movies in the back of the truck; we were never bored.

All our best, with our deepest sympathies, to Andy, Doug, Robert and Chris.
