Marcus Westman Friday September 2nd 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our exceptional husband, father, papa, grand papa Mark Leroy Westman on September 2nd at Actionmarguerite with his family by his side.
Mark was predeceased by his mother Kristbjorg, father Vigfus, sisters Pearl and Ruby, brother Kenny and granddaughter Amy.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Inez, 3 children, Brenda (Brian), Ken (Janice), Bruce (Kim), Grandchildren, Miranda (Brad), Amber, Rachel (Scott), Mark and Michelle. Great-Grandchildren Mattison. Nolan, Logan, Owen and Henry.
Dad was born in Winnipeg on August 25,1935 and spent his entire life being a Winnippeger.
Dad would spend his summers in Hnausa on the family farm where he learned about his Icelandic heritage, great work ethic and commitment to helping others. In the eyes of Dad’s sisters and brother, growing up he could never do any wrong and they were always there to protect and look after him even when he was in his 50s; it was very obvious to us the love they all shared. Dad was always into mischief as a young lad earning the nickname from his brother in law Ray “The Brat”.
Growing up in the West End Dad went to school at Wellington and General Wolfe . It was there that he met Mom. They married October 15, 1955 and have been together for 66 years. Dad worked at Pollard Banknote for 40 years great years where he formed and cherished lasting friendships.
When the three of us kids arrived, Dad was a devoted father. The family always came first with Dad, as he always made sure that he was part of our sports teams at Orioles C.C. Not only coaching the three of us, he also enjoyed coaching others and passing on the traditions that he set forth before each game that we play. Dads coaching talents came from years of playing competitive baseball as a short stop for Kiewel Seals playing out of West End C.C. and Charlie Krupp. Dad’s team was inducted into the Softball hall of fame in 2004 after their team won 4 championships in 6 years.
It was at Orioles C.C. where Mom and Dad met fellow parents that made up the “GANG”. The “GANG” ended up camping together at Husavik for many years. Camping was big part of our lives when we were kids, which lead into them purchasing a cabin at Hillside Beach. They went back to the camping after Dad retired in 1995 with their motor home traveling around Manitoba and North Dakota. Their trips to Hawaii, California, Florida and across western Canada formed great conversations with family and friends.
Dad went back to his Icelandic roots as he started fishing to be with his friends and family. In the Icelandic way Dad showed us all how it done by catching 5 master angler walleyes in one weekend at Crowduck Lake. After this we had to witness the celebration of him dancing with a chair around the fire singing. I guess we forget to tell you that he’s entertaining too!!
Our dad was known for his contagious smile, his sense of humour, caring personality, which we will all miss.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday September 16,2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre 3030 Notre Dame Ave.
The family would like to thank the staff at Actionmarguerite 4AB for the love and support you all gave Dad. The staff couldn’t wait for us to visit to tell us how his smile would make their day.
In lieu of flowers, donations if desired may be made in care of the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
