Born in Montreal, QC, to Alexander and Ethel MacMillan, on September 3, 1925, was Promoted to Glory on April 1, 2022, from Toronto ON. After graduating from Montreal West High School, he trained at Sir George Williams Business College, as a Bilingual Executive Secretary, and then worked for Canadian Pacific Railway, Pennsylvania Railway and Clarke Steamship Lines. He entered The Salvation Army College for Officers’ Training in New York City and was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer, of the Warriors Session, in 1947. His early appointments were in the New England area: Boston, Salem, Chelsea and Springfield, Massachusetts; New Haven, Connecticut and then Buffalo, New York. It was while stationed at the Buffalo West Side Temple Corps that he met his wife-to-be, Lieutenant Dorothy Uden, of Toronto, Canada. After their marriage, in Brantford, ON, they were stationed in Gananoque, Rhodes Avenue (Toronto), Verdun Citadel (Montreal), Halifax Citadel, Scarborough Citadel, Victoria Citadel and Glenmore Temple (Calgary). Headquarters appointments followed: Quebec and Eastern Ontario Divisional Headquarters, Red Shield Services – Germany, THQ Overseas Projects Department, THQ Public Relations (Special Events) Department. Donald and Dorothy were privileged to receive their Retirement Certificates from General Eva Burrows, at the conclusion of the Western Canada Congress, in 1990m which they had been appointed to organize. In retirement, they were always very active, taking on Post-Retirement appointments to serve as Corps Officers in Es, cover the furloughs of officers in the Red Shield Services in Germany and Projects Work in the Brazil Territory, for a few months in each appointment. Donald also took on the responsibility of organizing the Christmas Kettle fundraising activities in the Clearwater, Florida area each year for several years. He is lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Commissioner Susan McMillan, and brother, Mr. Murray MacMillan, Nieces, Nephews, and his extended family. The Funeral Service is to be held Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at The Salvation Army Scarborough Citadel Corps, 2021 Lawrence Avenue E, Scarborough ON.
