Maja Bezemer 1927 2022

Obituary of Maja Bezemer
It is with fond memories that we announce the passing of Maja Bezemer (van Overeem) on June 9th 2022 at QHC (Trenton Memorial Hospital).
Maja is survived by her two children, Patricia McGreevy (Mark) of Consecon, Ontario and Stanley Bezemer (Barbara and Alexandra Rustin) of Windsor, Ontario.
Maja was born in Tjikadjang, Indonesia on the island of Java, on October 30, 1927, the middle child of 10, born to Antoine Cornelis van Overeem and Ennah. Maja spent her childhood growing up on their farm helping her mother while her father managed Tea Plantations in the surrounding areas.
After surviving the Japanese occupation, she travelled to Holland where she met and married Ryk Bezemer. In 1960 they emigrated to Canada where they settled in Peterborough, and in 1998 she moved to Belleville. Maja loved living in Belleville and spent a great deal of time in Consecon on weekends where she was warmly embraced by the Consecon Community.
Maja was always such a joy to be around. To all who knew her, she was a very special, beautiful person who was lively, strong, adventurous and who loved to laugh. She was loved by all and we will miss her sweet giggles after a glass of wine.
We are lucky to have had her in our lives and she will forever be remembered with heartfelt love.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, Belleville (613-968-2273).
