Barbara Marie MacGillivray (née Rankin)
January 16, 1934 – July 13, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara MacGillivray
on July 13, 2022 in her 89th year.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Reginald, her parents Josephine and John Rankin,
and her brothers John, David, Brian, and Campbell.
Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Barbara is survived by her sister Anita Delaney and her brothers Raymond and Lawrence.
She was the loving mother of Glen (Kate) MacGillivray, Donita (Jack) Newbery and Rankin (Alexandra) MacGillivray,
proud grandmother of Kailea (Andy) Pedley, John MacGillivray (Heather Turcotte), Mike Newbery (Kym Holland) and Spencer MacGillivray and cherished great-grandmother of Hugo and Arthur Pedley.
She leaves behind a legacy of a life well-lived. Barbara’s hospitality was legendary as was her love for travel and adventure.
She will be greatly missed and will keep a special place in the hearts of many.
In keeping with Barb’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 21st from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at the
Ainsworth Funeral Home, 288 Noxon Avenue, Wellington, Ontario
followed by a small reception at her home in Wellington-on-the-Lake.

The family will bring Barbara home to Cape Breton for interment
on Wednesday, August 17th at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mabou.
