MACDONALD, Ronald Malcom “Mal”
December 15, 1931 — April 12, 2022
On April 12, 2022, at the age of 90, our dear father, Mal MacDonald, passed away peacefully, with his children by his side.
Mal leaves behind Helen; his daughter Heather and her husband Steven; his son Scott and his wife Karla; as well as 4 grandchildren Philip, Amelia, Courtney, and Jordan; and 3 great-grandchildren Wyatt, Owen, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his sister, Marianne Turner.
Mal was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved as a child to Toronto, Ontario. His parents made their living working with Conklin Carnivals and their young children grew up working alongside them, running the Hoop-La game, among others. His job was to encourage people to step up and try their luck, and we feel this is where he acquired his signature booming voice.
As a young man, he began working for Ontario Hydro, and continued to do so for the next 40 plus years. He married Helen Dinsdale in 1954, and they purchased 3 different houses within Scarborough, Ontario, where they raised their children, worked, and entertained until their retirement.
After he retired, Mal moved from Scarborough to Pickering, Ontario, where he lived for another 20 plus years until moving to Kelowna, BC in 2020 to be closer to his family.
Throughout his life, Mal could always be counted on to do his very best to provide a safe and loving home for his family. He was a man of integrity and simple needs. He was always there to support and encourage us all to pursue our dreams. He enjoyed people and parties, was a dedicated hockey dad, and in his later years he worked with his friend John at the Pickering Flea Market.
Rest in Peace, Dad. We can picture you now, dancing in Heaven to the Big Band music you loved so much.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service. He will be interred at St Margaret’s Church Cemetery in Scarborough, Ontario, at a later date.
