It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved mother, Mabel Wadden at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, January 17th, 2022, after an accidental fall at home.
Born in Catalone, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie MacDonald/Hall and step-daughter of the late Alex Hall.
She is survived by two sons, David (the late Cathy) and Dennis (Laura) and five daughters, Bernice (Henry) Parsons, Elaine (Michael) Rogez, Valerie (Victor) Hanham, Frances (Raymond) Lahey, and Denise (Basil); also, Cavelle Baldwin, Linda Wadden, Paula Wadden and Chris Spenceley; 22 grandchildren, Charlene, Heather, Nicole, Tanya, Deanna, Jordan, Angie, Justin, Meghan, Andrew, Annie-Leigh, Michael-David, Joseph, Jeffrey, Andra, Brett, Chelsea, Sophia, Autumn, Bronwyn, Riley, Ethan; and 11 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Rian, Elsie, Ivy Mabel, Andre, Sebastian, Sloan, Connor, Ali, Ben, and Blake. She is also survived by two sisters, Irene Lahey of Catalone and Carol Lahey of Sydney; cousin, Evelyn MacLeod of Sydney; sisters-in-law, Joanie (John Allan), Jean (Walter), Margie, Jeanette, Bonnie and Pauline, as well as many special nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dave, sons, Tony and Allister, and recently by daughter-in-law, Cathy Wadden. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Roddie and Alan.
She lived life to the fullest to her last days and always put her family and community foremost in her daily activities. She was recently awarded the Senate 150th Anniversary Medal. She will be missed by all that knew her especially her pal, Josh who helped make it possible for her to stay in her home. Special thanks to her daughters for their daily care and to her son, Davey for his nightly visits.
Special thanks to the County Homemakers girls and VON girls who treated her as one of their own; to Dr. Steven MacDougall and staff for providing her with excellent care for the last 30 years; also thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Chris Lata and Dr. R. J. MacKenzie for making her final days as restful as possible. Your kindness will always be remembered.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a family service will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish, Main-A-Dieu on Tuesday, January 25 at 11 am with her good friend, Fr. Patrick O’Neil presiding, interment will follow in the parish cemetery. There will be a recording of the service available for those unable to attend. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
