Born on December 24, 1934, in Trois-Rivières, Québec, passed away very peacefully on January 23, 2022 at Sidney All Care, Sidney, BC.
Lyse resided in Shawinigan, Québec during her childhood, moving to the Québec City in 1960. Following a significant course of study, she became a registered gemologist with the Gemological Institute of America and opened two jewelry stores in major retail centres in the city.
In 1975 she married Dr. Grant Brownlee (deceased December 7, 2007) and in 1984 they relocated to Washington, DC where Grant took up the post of Canadian Defence Liaison Staff. Retiring to Victoria, BC in 1988, Lyse actively pursued her creative passions. An avid gardener, she worked tirelessly alongside Grant in making their home a beautiful landscape of colour and texture. She loved to sew and knit and made many of the clothes they wore as well as all the drapery in their home. Her knit socks and sweaters were warm and cozy. She took up watercolour painting, rice paper lampshade making and numerous other crafts. Lyse shared her knowledge with others, hosting workshops with the Newcomers group. Entertaining and cooking were a specialty of hers, and she was known to plan extensive menus for each meal she served to family and friends.
Lyse had a close relationship with her only sibling, sister Berthe, who passed away in Trois-Rivières in 2014. Her devoted son Jacques Gobeil and his wife Lorraine, lived in various communities on Vancouver Island over the course of the past 20 years. They enjoyed a good friendship with Lyse & Grant and were of immeasurable help and support to Lyse following his passing, and throughout the many years following.
Grant’s children Mark (Donna), Janet, Linda & Donna Brownlee each nurtured a personal relationship with Lyse and their Dad.
As this chapter of our lives closes, Jacques & Lorraine, Mark & Donna, Janet, Linda and Donna and all of our family members remember the vibrant, talented, smiling woman who with us all, completed our family for so many years.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated and exceptional personnel of Sidney All Care for their loving care of Lyse. No service by request.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
