Lynn Newton 1937 2022

On November 21, 2022 at the age of 84, Jon Lynn Newton left us to embark on his next epic adventure.
Lynn’s amazing life will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years Leone; his children Kim, Teresa (Mike) and Shaun (Ashley); grandchildren Kyle (Chantalle), Mackenzie, and Winifred.
Lynn was born November 22, 1937 to Christina and Walter Newton in Morden, MB. He was the eldest of four children and will be remembered by brother Herb (Kathy) and sister Betty (Tom).
He was predeceased by his sister Judy.
He was a spitfire right from the get go and always looking for his next adventure. He grew up in the town of Cartwright where he held his first job matching nuts to bolts in his grandpa’s store. From there he went on to work in the store the cold locker and the tin shop, all before he was done school.
He once said he’s lived eight different lives since then and could write a whole book about each one. He took great pride and satisfaction in providing electricity to millions through his career with Manitoba Hydro, the world bank, CIDA and the Caribbean Development Bank. He operated diesel generators at the dam in Grand Rapids, Manitoba from there he moved farther North installing diesel generators through numerous northern Manitoba communities. He oversaw rural electrification projects in Nigeria, Tanzania and Jamaica.
In the Jamaican project he developed his own program for material and labour management. As a result, enough was saved on the initial contract to fund a second contract.
Besides the many travels in his work, he was also an avid traveler having visited over 42 countries.
Even with all that travel, one of his favourite places was the family cabin at Lake Max where there was always something exciting happening be it rescuing a moose from the middle of the lake or tossing a raccoon into the bushes. Nothing capped a day off like a boat ride around the lake and watching the sunset.
He truly was a jack of all trades. There was nothing he could not fix and never a challenge he was not willing to accept.
He taught us to do what’s right, not what’s easy. That, with hard work and effort, you can achieve anything, to believe in ourselves as much as he believed in us, to be brave, to be bold and to never stop looking for the next adventure.
While wrapped in his favourite African themed quilt that Leone made, cremation has taken place.
As per his request a private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers (the cats will destroy them), please make a donation to a charity of your choosing.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lynn
