Lynda Girard Smits December 18 2022

Obituary
SMITS, Lynda (Girard)
Lynda Smits passed away with her adoring family by her side on December 18, 2022 at the age of 58 years old. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 36 years, Dave, her children Sara (Derrick) Chusroskie and Steven (Taylor) Smits, as well as her grandson Clark Chusroskie.
Lynda was born and raised in Sturgeon Falls to Andre Girard and the late Faye Girard (Brown). She was loved by her wonderful siblings John (Lise and niece Ashley) Girard, Lori (Chris, nephew James and niece Amber) Blair, and David Girard. She enjoyed and cherished her many happy memories with her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She married into the big, beautiful Smits Family and shared many wonderful memories with Dave’s seven siblings and their extended families. She was the loved aunt to many nieces and nephews who she also loved dearly.
Her passion in life was her 32-year career as a teacher, where she taught french immersion at Laurentian Public School, Dr. Carruthers Public School, Pinewood Public School, and Alliance Public School. Shaping the minds of tomorrow was one of her greatest privileges.
Lynda lived her life through service to others. When she retired as a teacher, she served on the boards of One Kids Place and Packsac Smiles. She also volunteered for Cycling without Age and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit as well as many other community initiatives throughout the year.
The most important thing to Lynda was her family and friends. She was always there when you needed her, making too much food, and heaping endless love to all those around her. She would want to acknowledge the wonderful years of meaningful friendships with the Collins and Boudreau families who have become family. She shone her light so bright on many lives, and the world is a little darker now that she has passed.
We will miss you, our lovely Lynda. Take care cause we care!
Lynda and her family would like to acknowledge the incredible care team who took excellent care of her over the last few months. Special acknowledgement to our incredible family doctor Dr. Kathryn Shaw for her care, empathy, and constant support.
In lieu of flowers, donations to One Kids Place or Packsac Smiles will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, December 28th at the Grande Event Centre (192 Main St E) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Condolences may be offered online at www.hillsidefuneral.ca.
