DOWDELL, Lyle Cameron
September 26, 1931 – March 15, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather and Friend, Lyle Cameron Dowdell. Dad passed peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. We are all truly blessed to have had such a kind, generous and remarkable person in our lives.
Lyle is lovingly remembered by his sons, Neil (Sandy) and Ian (Deborah); Daughter-in-Law, Beth; Sister-in-Law, Audrey Pedscalny; Grandchildren, Adam, Jenna (Travis), Tyler and Nicole (Justin); and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Lyle was predeceased by the love of his life, Sheila; sons, Murray and Doug; his brother, Keith; and brother-in-law, Victor Pedscalny.
A lifelong Alberta resident, Lyle was born September 26, 1931 in St Paul, Alberta, and soon after moved to Vermilion with his parents. He completed his education in Vermilion and followed his Dad and Brother into his career with the CN Rail. Lyle and Sheila were married in 1956 in Vermilion, then moved to Stettler, Red Deer and finally to Calgary in 1980 as Dad pursued his career with the Railroad. Dad retired from CN in 1986 and spent many happy years enjoying his time with family, camping, travelling and the volunteering with the Masonic Lodge. Dad was a dedicated Mason, who gave countless hours to charity to help his community. Dad’s quiet strength and sense of humor will be truly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
We are thankful for our time together. A Celebration of Lyle’s Life will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 1102 – 23 Ave NW, Calgary, AB on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests a donation be made in Lyle’s name to the Canadian Lung Association, 17420 Stony Plain Rd #208, Edmonton, AB, T5S 1K6.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lyle Cameron Dowdell March 15th 2022..
