Obituary
LUELLA BERNICE BURBANK HOLT passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022 with family by her side, at Good Samaritan’s in Magrath, Alberta, at the age of 96. She is survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren in the Gray and Holt families.
Luella was predeceased by her parents Alden Marion Burbank and Millie Simmons Burbank, her first husband, Ray Gray, and her three sons, Larry, Donnie and Dennis Gray and her second husband, Murray Holt.
She was born on July 6, 1925 in Claresholm, Alberta. Mildred, a sister who was ten years older, was like a second mother to her and taught her the basic skills that gave her a head start in school. School came easy to Luella – she was always a top student, often earning honors. She loved music, playing the organ and piano, singing, and being in programs. She was very artistic and creative, a great writer, and she wrote many poems. She loved sewing, embroidery and crocheting.
Luella loved Easter, Halloween and Christmas. Her parents helped make each holiday fun and memorable, while taking time to teach why they were important. Prayer was taught in their home and she relied on the power of prayer.
A common friend introduced Luella to Ray Gray. They courted and were married in 1946. They were blessed with three sons: Larry (1948), Donnie (1951) and Dennis (1954), Ray passed away in 1979 from health issues.
Luella was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She participated in many music and leadership positions and attended the Temple regularly. Murray Holt was an ordinance worker whose wife had passed away in 1977. They became acquainted and were married in December, 1980. Murray and Luella served in the Cardston Temple Presidency and were able to serve a mission in the Oakland Temple Visitors’ Center in California.
Murray passed away in 2004. Luella lived in their home in Cardston until it was necessary for her to receive extra care. She lived in Ridgeview Lodge in Raymond for five years and moved to the Good Samaritan’s in Magrath in January, 2020. She was always appreciative of the care she received.
Friends are welcome to meet with the family on Wednesday January 19, 2022 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at SALMON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME (433 Stubb Ross Rd South, Lethbridge).
