Obituary
We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved mother at the age of 101 years. Lucy Florence Bichel was the daughter of Anton Ollenberger and Barbara Butwilofski, born November 27, 1920 at Grosswerder, Saskatchewan.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph on January 28, 1972, her son Patrick Joseph on April 21, 2019 and her parents Barbara Ollenberger in 1985 and Anton Ollenberger in 1970. She is survived by her five children; Lloyd George (Tillie Stang), Dianne Magdeline (Ed Boser, deceased 2013), Lorraine Martha (Ted Malach deceased 2018), Barbara Ann (Brian Page); eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren; her brother James Ollenberger and sister Lily McKenzie.
Lucy was born on the Ollenberger farm one-half mile from St. Anthony’s Church. She married Joseph Bichel on October 24, 1939 in the same house she was born in. They farmed at Cactus Lake until they sold the farm and moved to Saskatoon in 1968, then on to Calgary in 1969.
Lucy worked very hard her whole life and was a loving and caring person but her greatest joy was her family, cooking, baking (especially angel food cakes), and travelling. She was also very artistic and had many hobbies, one of which one was painting. She painted beautiful pictures right up until her death. She managed to provide for 50 years without her husband Joseph. Lucy was a longtime member of the CWL. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00am.
