Lucien Laurencelle Sunday August 7th 2022

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Lucien (Lou) Laurencelle on Sunday August 7, 2022, at Jocelyn House, one day before his 89th birthday.
He leaves to mourn his wife Lucille (Grenier), his sons, Richard, Raymond (Doris) and Ronald (Bobbie), his daughters, Carole (Sandy) and Collette (Pierre), his 11 grandchildren, Janelle (Sean), Dominique, Ian (Ashley), Brenna (Corey), Rochelle (Patrick), Justin, Julien (Roma), Destin, Alynne, Jamie and Samantha, and 6 great grandchildren, Pyper, Sloane, Cleo, Avilee, Shaelynn, and Olivia, his brothers Ubald (Huguette), Rénald (Betty), Gilbert, his sisters Jeannine and Ginette as well as many nephews and nieces.
Lucien was predeceased by his son Robert, his parents Georges and Clara (née Beaudry), his sisters Yvette M and Yvette I, his brothers Noël, Gérard and Irénée, his nephews Roger and Jean-Marc, his niece Nicole, his brother-in-law Gérard Kirouac, his sisters-in-law Lorraine Thibert and Monique Préfontaine.
Lucien was born on August 8, 1933 in La Broquerie, Manitoba. The oldest of 7 boys, he went to Saint-Joachim School in La Broquerie, but left his studies at the age of 14 to seek opportunities in order to help support the family during tough times. Lucien helped his father cut wood in places like Bedford, Sainte Rita and Sandilands. He worked as a farm laborer, weeding the gardens of families and relatives in the area. He also worked for a cheese plant, hauling 4’ lengths of wood that would be used to heat the cheese vats. In the family, he was the catalyst of the group, often leading the others in playing baseball or going for a swim in the Seine River.
Following this, he worked in various fields such as machine operator, construction, electricity dam, paper mill, cement plant and clearing the “Slash” in Ontario for building roads. In 1956, he married Lucille Grenier. Lucien obtained his welding certificate and was a welder for most of his life, working for large pipeline companies, until he slowly retired in the late 90s. As a result of his profession, he was often away from home and travelled to most provinces in Canada and states in the USA building the pipelines we use today, making lifelong friends along the way.
Lucien enjoyed life and was very sociable. He loved to cross country and downhill ski, and skate on the nearest rivers and ponds. His life took him and his family on many a road trip to distant and interesting places from the Rocky Mountains to the Grand Canyon, to Flintstone Park and Red Jacket SK.
Mid-life, he loved Sunday drives to Steinbach, Gimli, Selkirk, Lockport and Kenora, often searching for deals, trailers and cars… especially when they were closed. The days often ended with a stop at A&W making sure to leave with a classic glass jug of Root Beer. Lucien loved to shop… wheel and deal… and was patient in getting what he wanted. Heaven forbids and Lucille to lament something was being given for free!
Later in life Dad loved spending time at his cabin in Sandilands skidooing and quadding the dusty trails with his brother Irénée and son Robert. He loved snowmobiling and eating the most, and was always equipped for any circumstance. The latest snowmobile and enough children to pick dandelion leaves for his massive bowls of salad was like gold. Dad was always happy and proud around his family and cherished his time with his children, grand children and great grand children. Until recently, Lucien worked out daily in his home gym and was constantly devoted in prayer of the holy rosary for the safety and wellness of his family and friends.
Dad’s spirit, soul and presence will be forever missed.
A special Thank-You to the staff and volunteers at Jocelyn House for their compassion and care.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 774 Archibald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba.
