The family announces with sorrow the passing of Lucia (Lucy) Melchiorre at the Timmins and District Hospital on November 24th, 2022. Beloved wife of 67 years to the late Giovanni (Johnny) Melchiorre. Loving mother of Armida (Graham) Millions, and Lorenzo (Cynthia Foy) Melchiorre.
Cherished grandmother of Andrew (Carrie), Vanessa, Kristopher Millions and Milan Melchiorre. Great-grandmother to Kalli Millions and step grandmother to Julien and Jean-Phillipe Malette.
Lucia was a mother to many; she enjoyed the company of family and friends and welcomed the opportunity to make a meal within short notice when folks would come over. She would place a pot of water on the stove and make fresh pasta from scratch before the water would even boil. The more company she had the happier Lucia would be and nobody left the house hungry. She enjoyed having company and many individuals looked to “Nonna Lucy” for guidance and support. Lucia took pride and joy teaching her grandchildren to cook and enjoyed the suppers she had with them.
She is survived by her sisters Genesia Marini, Mimi Fontechio, Palmina Furletti and sister-in-laws Flo Colasacco and Gilda Colasacco. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as many good friends. In particular, her guardian angel Holly Morrissette who spent countless hours with her, the coffee club (Barb and Holly) as well as her extended family Nadir and Natalie Zordan and Maria (Teddy) and Pete Pellerin.
Lucia was predeceased by her parents Paquale and Annunziata, as well as her brothers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Ercole (Fiorella) Colasacco, Nick Colasacco, Quinto Colasacco, Joseph (Madeline) Colasacco, Domenic Marini, Adamo Fonttechio, Sergio Furletti, Nino (Gilda) Melchiorre, Armida Melchiorre and Antonina (Luigi) Salvatore.
Lucia was born in Cappadocia L’Aquila Italy immigrating to Canada in 1953. Arriving in Canada she worked various jobs until the love of her life Giovanni finished his military services and then came to Canada (1955) where they married and spent their lifetime together. Lucia worked as a seamstress later in life and has found memories of working there with her co-workers at Eve’s Style Shop.
It is well known that Lucia was a superb Chef. She would watch “Lidia’s Italy” on television and then would make that recipe later that evening for supper. She was an active member of the Porcupine Dante Club volunteering in the food prep at various Italian ethnic events for over 50 years.
Lucia was a loving wife, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother an adopted mother to many and a chef. She was an individual who loved people, and everyone enjoyed spending time with her. Her overall gentleness, kindness and excellent listening skills will be missed by her family and everyone who knew her.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, doctors, care caregivers and all of Lucia’s good friends and wonderful neighbors. Your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
To know Lucia was to love her.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home. Remembrance donations to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
