Louise Antoinette Cook July 5th 1925 June 22nd 2022

Louise Cook (nee Power) of Little Harbour PEI passed away peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, following a brief illness. She was just 2 weeks short of her 97th birthday. The youngest of 10 children of the late William Power and Flora Sutherland of Little Harbour, she was the raised on the family farm overlooking Northumberland Strait. Her early years were typical of outdoor farm life during that era, riding horseback to school and to hockey games in Souris, milking the cows, working in the potato fields, and later taking the train to visit her older sisters in Boston, New York and in Montreal, where she worked one winter during the Second World War.
In 1959 she met Jack Cook, a dashing young RCMP constable stationed at Souris detachment. They were married in 1960 and spent 52 years together, raising a family in various postings primarily in Ontario before retiring back to the farm in PEI in 1989. In retirement they travelled extensively across Canada and the US and won several awards for their beautiful gardens in Little Harbour.
She was predeceased by her beloved Jack in 2012, and by all nine of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children Stephen (North Vancouver BC), Camilla (Weymouth Mass.), Matt (Newmarket Ont.) and Nancy (Bill; Barrie, Ont.), as well as by her grandchildren Mike, Paul and Melissa and great-granddaughter Lucy. Also, to mourn her loss are nephews and her closest nieces Doris MacPhee, Mary and Ann MacInnis, Margie Stewart, Lorraine Gillan, Pauline Bonna and Billie Marie Trotter and close friends Wayne and Ann Horrocks.
Louise was a long-time parishioner at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Souris, where she was Christened and married. The family thanks the QEH and the staff at Andrews of Charlottetown for their care and kindness during her last two winters, when she was unable to travel to the homes of her children.
A funeral service for family and friends will take place in Ontario at a later date with interment to be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kingston, Ontario. If so desired, donations in memory of Louise can be made to the MacIntyre House.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Louise Antoinette Cook July 5th 1925 June 22nd 2022..
