Obituary
Born March 3, 1936, in Rudabanya, Hungary; Louis immigrated to Canada as a young man in 1957 where he landed in Halifax and made his way west by train.
He worked as a cowboy on multiple ranches throughout Alberta, including the McGlynn’s in Magrath, before starting his career in the meat industry in Lethbridge.
He moved to Pincher Creek in the early 1970’s and worked at the Co-op as a meat cutter, where he met his future wife, Shirley and they married in 1977.
They spent over a decade in Hillcrest and they managed their own meat shop in Blairmore. Shirley and Lou moved back to Pincher Creek in 1993 and he continued his career at PC Meats and again at the Co-op before his retirement.
Lou found great joy fishing at Beauvais Lake, and the Crowsnest River, especially when he was with his grandchildren.
He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, camping, a strong cup of coffee, and travelling.
He returned to visit relatives in Hungary several times, taking his Canadian family with him.
Later in life, he became a voracious reader, and enjoyed staying active by walking and biking.
Lou was extremely proud to call himself a Canadian, and never tired of sharing stories of his adventurous journey to his new home.
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 45 years, Cathy Yost, Calgary; Chris (Shelly Grubbe) Yost, Calgary; Rebecca Yost, Vancouver.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Louis can be made to the Windy Slopes Foundation or to Pincher Creek Care Bears Society
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Louis Varga March 3 1936 October 8 2022 (age 86)..
