Louis Carreiro passed away peacefully along-side his family at 10:35pm on July 28th, 2022. Louis was born in Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel, and migrated to Canada in 1957. Louis was a strong man, who battled for several years with renal disease and congestive heart failure. He took great pride in his family and work ethic, and had a strong sense of honour for his motherland. He had a zest for life and loved to travel and enjoyed many healthy years riding his motorcycle. He had and infectious laugh and a sarcastic sense of humour that only those who truly knew, could understand and adore. One place where he took great refuge was at his daughter Sandra’s cottage in Bayfield, where he loved to ride his golf cart and listen to country music. Above all else, his passion for soccer is what kept him entertained, as he lost mobility in his last years. He was greatly respected and loved by his family, and will be held fondly in their memory.
Louis was the son of Joe & Lourdes Carreiro. Devoted brother of the late Daniel Couto, and survived by John, Mario and Joe Carreiro. Louis was the beloved father of Frank Carreiro (Crystal), Sandra Carreiro (Paul), Monica Gonsalves (Kieron). Respected Vovy to Victoria Byrne (Blake), Catarina Carreiro (Justin), Samuel, Reckina and Jordan Botelho, and Miguel Gonsalves. Great Vovy to Benjamin, William and Willow. He was also loved by several extended family members, such as nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would also like to take this opportunity to extend a deep heartfelt thanks to the Grand River Hospital, more specifically the Renal Clinic, Dr. Gregor and her peritoneal team for the past 12 years who provided the longevity and support to enjoy the extended time with his family. A special thank you to nurse Catherine, for your dedication and special care for our father over the years. Your compassion did not go unnoticed.
Finally, in lieu of flowers – the family has asked that if you are able, to donate blood at your local blood bank (as he received many life-saving transfusions over the years). Should you wish to make a donation, we ask that you donate to Grand River Hospital – Dialysis Unit.
Resting at Corbett funeral Home 95 Dundas St, N. Cambridge where family and friends will be received on Sunday July 31, 2022, from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church on Monday August 1, 2022 at 11a.m. Cremation to follow.
Forever gone, but never forgotten. May God Be with You Always as you Rest in peace Louis!
