Lorne’s Obituary
Lorne Thomas Arthur Jacobs born October 7, 1937 passed peacefully away January 14, 2022 with his family by his side.
Born to Cecil and Bertha Jacobs in Joe Batts Arm, Fogo Island he moved with his family to Lewisporte as a young man. There he met and married Dawn Brett the love of his life and raised his family. He worked with the CN for his whole life and retired when he was still young and could enjoy his pension.
Lorne loved to salmon fish and spent many summers on the Genevieve River with Dawn and the kids in tow. In later years, he would make the trek with good friends in their trailer. It was his happy place and hobby. Dad was an avid reader and berry picker and a devoted member of the Lions Club only last year receiving a lifetime award.
Lorne is predeceased by his parents, Bertha and Cecil; wife, Dawn; granddaughter, Caitlyn; brothers, Ross and Owen; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stanley Brett (Ina), Leonard Brett, Clyde Brett (Margaret), Bruce Reid, Aldo Turrin.
Left to mourn are his beloved family, Chris and Patty (Jacobs) Walsh, Neil and Heather Jacobs, Gary and Suzanne Jacobs, Dean and Tina Jacobs, Sheldon and Stephanie Brett (Mitchell and Zachary); grandchildren/great grandchildren- Ryan (Heather and Madeleine) Ashley (Derek, Molly and Penny) Chelsea (Charles, Avery, Lewis and Lauren) Matthew, Rebecca, Noah and Nathan; Brother, Gene (Ruth); Sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Marina, Betty and Joan; as well a large number of nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the Emergency and 2C staff at Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care during dad’s brief stay – it was greatly appreciated.
Public visitation will take place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL on Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 7-9 PM following COVID-19 government regulations.
The funeral service will take place from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Lewisporte, NL on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 10 AM for invited guests only. The NLVax Pass or documentation along with a photo ID will be required when entering both the funeral home and the church.
