Lorne Rotar Tuesday September 20th 2022

ROTAR, LAWRENCE “LORNE” GEORGE
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence “Lorne” George Rotar, at St. Mary’s Hospital on September 20, 2022 in his 83rd year.
Devoted and forever loved husband to Val, he was a cherished Father, Father-in-law, Papa, Great Papa, Brother, Brother-in-law, Uncle, and friend.
Val and Lorne were married March 10, 1990 and lived their lives in Kitchener and their summer home on Lake Erie.
Lorne was the son of the late Samuel Rotar and Olympia Carling. Loving father to Karen (Mike), Kelly, Kristi (Mike), Ryan and Blake (Ashley). Adoring papa to Shawn (Megan), Luke (Caileigh), Tori, Gage, Brielle, Brinley, Kayla, Jonathon, Tyler. Great papa to Madden, Finley and Paisley.
Beloved brother to Nancy (Keith), brother in law to Sheila, Cathy (Walt), Kim and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his in laws Don and Jean Marchuk and Brother-in-law Kevin Marchuk, Step Brother John and Step Sister Jeanette.
Lorne started his career at the Daily Press in Timmins then moved to the Galt Reporter and later to the KW Record in 1965 where he held various production management roles.
Lorne had a passion for the newspaper industry, retiring after 30 years as an assistant production manager. After he retired, he worked as an independent contractor for the KW Record for another 20 years, never wanting to give up what he loved.
Lorne enjoyed countless hours at the rink either during his time with the Waterloo Siskins or cheering on his son and grandchildren from the stands.
Val and Lorne loved their second home at the trailer where they shared laughs, friendships and many happy times with their Wildwood family.
Lorne was known to kill it on the golf course and he was an avid skier in his younger years. Lorne would look forward to his yearly hunting trip to Timmins with his buddies and enjoyed his coffee time at the mall with his friends. As a young man, Lorne was a Ukrainian dancer and loved to play hockey.
The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Tan and the KW Hospice palliative care team, his nurse Charity and his caring and attentive PSW Tilay for their kindness during these past few months.
Lorne’s family will receive relatives and friends from 12 -12:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A Celebration of Lorne’s Life in the chapel on Thursday at 1 p.m. Reception to follow.
