Lorne’s Obituary
Passed away peacefully, at Hardy Terrace in Mt. Pleasant, Ontario on February 24, 2022. Lorne was the eldest of 10 children of Herbert and Hazel Fair (nee Van Sickle). Born in the Pine Grove area of Brantford Township, Lorne grew up there on the family farm and in his early twenties moved to a farm in Onondaga Township, in Brant County, where he met his future wife, Alberta Harvey. They were married in 1949 and had eight children. Lyle (Jill), Lloyd (Annie), Pauline (stillborn), Suzanne Haber (Don), Betty Harper (Paul – deceased), Hilda Fair (Paul Parkhill), Howard, Eileen Askin. Lorne was predeceased by Eileen, Lloyd and Hilda. Lorne has 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Lorne was involved in many farm organizations: Brant County Federation of Agriculture, Brant County Soil Crop Improvement Association, Brant County Farm Management Association, Brant County Milk Committee and spent six years on former South Dumfries Township Council. Lorne also spent much of his time working in the Second Onondaga Baptist Church and the St. George Baptist Church as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Choir member. For several years, Lorne was the moderator of the Oxford Brant Association of Baptist Churches. Lorne served many years at Camp Oneida in many capacities. Lorne was on the Paris Fair Board for 47 years. In his later years, Lorne became an avid curler and spent much of his retirement enjoying and playing this sport at the Paris Curling Club. During the summer, he participated in lawn bowling at the St. George Lawn Bowling Club.
Friends will be welcomed at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, Paris, for a Memorial Service on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 2 pm. Lorne’s Memorial Service will be live streamed via Facebook Live. To watch the service please visit and “Like” the Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home Facebook page. The live video stream will be available on Wednesday March 2, 2022 at 1:55 p.m. In Lorne’s memory, donations made to either Oneida Baptist Camp (camponeida.com/) or the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead Upkeep Fund (through the Federated Women’s Institute of Canada) (www.fwic.ca/) would be appreciated by the family.
