Obituary
Lorna Alison Gillespie
January 24, 1933 – March 3, 2022
Lorna Alison Gillespie (née Dunford) aged 89, passed away on March 3, 2022, in the early evening at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital with a friend by her side.
Lorna was adopted into the Dunford family of Liverpool, England although she was not aware of this until much later on in life. Lorna’s loving husband Jim died in 2015 and she is survived by her cousin Evelyn, her many friends here in Canada, the USA, Mexico and family and friends in England. Trained as a Registered Nurse she worked aboard passenger liners on their medical staff, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, and the Victorian Order of Nurses driving to her appointments in her red sports car. In Toronto she was on staff at the Commerce Court Medical Centre.
Lorna and Jim married in 1976 and for a short while lived in St. Bruno, Quebec. They moved to Ontario later that year and settled in Oakville and became prominent members of that community. Lorna continued working in the medical field and assisting Jim in his business. Upon their retirements they continued to be active gardener’s, home renovators, and travelled extensively. Their homes were gathering places where their many friends congregated to be entertained with fine food, excellent wines, and sparkling conversation. Lorna will be greatly missed by her family in England and her many friends around the world.
A memorial service to celebrate Lorna’s life will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville on Saturday March 12, 2022 at 1pm followed by a reception. Donations in lieu of flowers to either the Oakville Hospital Foundation or the SPCA in recognition of Lorna’s love of nursing and cats.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lorna Alison Gillespie January 24 1933 March 3 2022..
