Obituary
Lori was the oldest of eight children to Andrew (D. 1987) and Shirley Lorincz (D. 2016). She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Lorincz, sisters Erin Knowles (Robert), LeAnn Lorincz, Cyndy Lorincz, Angeline Lorincz, Therese Lorincz-McRae (Claude), brothers James Lorincz (Rose Ormiston) and Matthew Lorincz (Marjo Rivard-Lorincz) and her many nieces and nephews.
Lori was an extremely kind-hearted person, always giving easily and often to whoever was in need. She was generous, taking nothing for herself and giving what she had without question or concern. Alongside her kindness was a very good sense of humor. Lori laughed a lot and smiled all the time. She would often refer to Charlene as her “favorite daughter” and “number one brat” as an expression of her profound love for her. And, any other family member might find themselves as a “number two brat” – all said with twinkling eyes and followed by a wide smile. She was also known as “Laughing Lori” by her colleagues in elder care.
Lori began her professional career as a Registered Nurse in 1990 after completing her studies at the University College of the Cariboo (now Thompson Rivers University) in Kamloops.
She returned to school to complete her Batchelor of Science a few years later. Lori worked for 10 years at the Ponderosa Lodge Extended Care facility in Kamloops before moving to Calgary in 2002 where she took a position at Revera McKenzie Town Long-Term Care Facility until 2020. Her area of specialty was working with people with Dementia. Her devotion to the care and love of people put all those whom she worked with at ease.
Lori was passionate about gardening and always grew a variety of herbs and vegetables, and she especially loved tomatoes and marigolds. She would go out on the weekends during the summer months to farmer’s markets near and far. You could always find her traveling down a dusty road to some unique place to source out a new product to try or return to a treasured place for that special item. Lori enjoyed being practical whether it was canning and processing her garden bounty or finding innovative ways to stitch together all manner of rips and tears in any piece of clothing, including socks. Her appreciation for the practical in life was demonstrated through her generosity and selflessness. She often said she wanted to serve those who needed her care the most, and she did so throughout her entire life.
She is forever in our hearts and will be missed by all who knew her.
Note: Lori loved honey bees. So, the next time you see one, you may be reminded of her.
