Lora’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Lora Mattina announce her passing on May 14th, 2022, at the age of 59 in Hamilton, Ontario. Adored wife of 25 years to Sam Mattina, the love of her life and best friend. Together they raised three amazing, beautiful children, Christian, Chiara, and Solana, who were the centre of her world. She will be sorely missed by her loyal dog and constant companion, Cannoli. Loving daughter to Armando and Franca Spadaro, daughter in law to the late Graziella and Carmelo Mattina. Beloved sister to David and his wife Lesley, Kevin and Dean-Paul and sister-in-law to Marianne and Peter Salvo. Adoring Zia to Alexandra, Nicole, Hunter, Joshua, Madison, Matthew, Ciera, Joseph, and angel Gabriel. Cherished niece of Pierina and the late Joseph DeSantis, Lida and the late Socrate Bergamo, Mariangela and the late Renzo Traven, Sam Spadaro, Maria Spadaro, the late Giuseppe Spadaro and his wife Gabriella, and Al and Dolly Spadaro. Lora is survived by too many dear cousins to name, across Canada, the US and Italy.
Lora’s home was a haven for all, always immaculate, perfectly decorated, featured in magazines, yet still warm and welcoming. She was usually found in the kitchen, wooden spoon and drink in hand, as she welcomed you in, insisting there is always room for one more as she set another plate. She was the rock of her family, the core to which they all gravitated. Her favourite saying was ‘It’s all good!’, and those that shared in her wedding to Sam saw that motto in action, as a storm swept through and Lora danced her way through the puddles, sharing laughter and love with family and friends. Her sense of style was second to none, beginning in her early days at Le Chateau. She was never seen in track pants, always in heels, with her signature red nail polish and lipstick. As the owner of ‘A Little Bazaar’ children’s boutiques, she developed many skills that served her well as she worked alongside Sam in all their joint endeavours. Her passion for caring for others shone through in her volunteer work, giving her time at St Joseph’s School for both the Forest of Reading and the yearbook committee, the Catholic Women’s League, where she put her cooking skills to use at Lenten & Advent breakfasts, Shrove Tuesday and church bazaars, and the Catholic Children’s Aid Society where she made meals for Hamilton Out of the Cold.
Visitation will be from 1-5pm, and 6-9pm Thursday, May 19th, 2022, at Friscolanti Funeral Chapel, 43 Barton St E, Hamilton. Funeral service will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish, located at 260 Herkimer St, Hamilton, on Friday, May 20th, 2022, at 10am.
The family would like to send special thanks to many of the staff at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for their compassionate care to Lora. In addition, the family wishes to thank Debbie Logel Butler and the staff at the Cancer Assistance Program for their equipment and expertise.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Lora’s name to Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice & the Cancer Assistance Program.
