Obituary of Lloyd Travis
TRAVIS: Lloyd Alexander –
A gifted and talented residential contractor has left his earthly body and will use his talent in Heaven. He will be standing beside his loved one, Dorothy, again for eternity.
Lloyd Alexander Travis, born January 13, 1926, was a resident of Dresden Ontario, and was presently residing at Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care Home in Chatham, Ontario.
Lloyd passed away peacefully on September 14, 2022 at the age of 96.
Lloyd was born in Chatham Township, son of the late William and Jenette (Lucas) Travis.
Predeceased in death by his nine siblings – Wilfred, Therman, Kinglsey, Howard, Leonard, Marjorie Mooney, Floretta Robbins, Ida Brown and Rita Travis.
Beloved husband to the late Dorothy May Travis (May 2022) for 75 years. Father to eight children: Linda (Bill) Dildy, Louise Johnson-Travis, Dennis (Carole), Stephen (Deborah), Arthur, Stewart, Tammy Travis-Folan, and David (predeceased 1956).
Grandfather to sixteen grandchildren and great-grandfather to numerous beautiful great-grandchildren.
Lloyd was a Residential Building Contractor for 45 years as Travis Brothers Construction in Dresden with his brother Wilfred, brother-in-law John Robbins and nephew Jerry Travis. Within his career, Lloyd developed Travis and Son Construction with his three sons, Dennis, Arthur and Stewart constructing residential and business projects within Kent County and Lambton County.
Lloyd and Dorothy owned and operated Tasty Treat Ice Cream shake store within Dresden in spring of 1962 for approximately 18 years, providing the community with summer time ice cream refreshments. Lloyd was a strong and positive teacher for his children, teaching his talented building skills, trade and business planning to all who worked with him.
Lloyd was a long-term church member and choir member in the following community churches within Chatham-Kent: Prince Albert Baptist Church, Union Baptist Church and Queen Street Baptist Church. Lloyd enjoyed sharing God’s word within the community and reading his Bible daily.
Lloyd was an active community member within Dresden and participated as member of the Dresden Residential and Commercial Planning committees in the late 60’s. Dad had a keen interest in the future developments within his community.
Lloyd’s thoughts: “A carpenter lays the foundation of Home Sweet Home, crafts a cabinet to hold memories, and makes sure the door is always open to all.”
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 11:00am – 12:00pm. A Graveside Service will follow at Dresden Cemetery.
Donations made in memory of Lloyd to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
