Lloyd’s Obituary
Jenkins, Lloyd Douglas – 78, Oxford, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2022 with his family by his side at North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash. Born in Charlottetown and raised in Millview, PEI, he was a son of the late George and Jennie (Lea) Jenkins. Lloyd earned his Bachelors’ of Science and Education degrees at Mount Allison University and University of New Brunswick. After teaching for a couple of years on PEI, Lloyd moved to Oxford where he taught chemistry and physics for 30 years at Oxford Regional High School and was affectionately referred to by many students as Dr. J. On early trips back to the Island, Lloyd provided a young lady working in Amherst with a ride to PEI. Those rides blossomed into more, and Lloyd and Marie were married in June, 1973. They were blessed with three daughters over the next several years. Outside of school, Lloyd was a man of service, serving as a councillor and later mayor for 12 years with the Town of Oxford. He was active over the years with the Oxford Church of the Nazarene as a board member and church treasurer, and was involved with The Gideons International. In retirement, Lloyd enjoyed gardening and taking cruises with his wife, visiting the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska and Denmark. He is survived by his wife, Marie; daughters, Elizabeth (Robert) Anderson; Nancy Jenkins (Blair Munroe); Esther (Stephen) Arsenault; grandchildren, Marin, Linnea, Faith and Josiah; brothers, Fred (Evelyn); Wendell (Jean). He will also be missed by his nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by brother, Gordon. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, July 18 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 in Oxford Church of the Nazarene. Donations may be made to Oxford Church of the Nazarene or The Gideons International.
