Obituary
Lloyd Joseph Oswald Godin – June 2, 1953 – March 7, 2022
Lloyd Godin, of Nash Creek, passed away peacefully the morning of March 7th, 2022 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital at the age of 68. He was the son of the late Oswald and Mathilda Godin.
Lloyd was known to many in the region. He loved to talk, and would share a story with anyone, nicknamed Gabby Godin with reason. Throughout the years, his love of fishing and being on the Bay will have become household stories with most friends.
He was a welder, pipefitter, heavy equipment operator, and long haul trucker to name a few, having traveled most of Canada working. A jack-of-all-trades, to be sure.
Earlier in his years, Lloyd could be found playing ball, hockey, darts or snowmobiling. He was someone who loved to be surrounded by people, and his hobbies were always ones that could be enjoyed with friends. Ball trips on the bus are some of the best memories shared with his wife, Dale.
Married thirty-seven years, their first date happened thanks to the dare of a mutual friend. Vacations together while teasing his wife that she had no sense of direction to shaking his head at her for hooking a rock on her fishing line; they made the best meals together.
He was a man of many words, and all were truthful: bluntly so. If you were offended easily, you probably didn’t like him, and he wouldn’t have cared. He had a sharp tongue, and always wanted the last word. He made sure to get it, except with his daughter Jana. He was always proud to tell anyone that no one would get the last word with her, himself included.
His only child, he taught Jana to always try her best in everything, and that would always be good enough for him. He cherished his daughter and her family: his son-in-law Dominic and their daughter Rose.
As much as he loved his daughter, there’s no comparison to the love he felt for his granddaughter, Rose. He couldn’t wait until she was old enough to bring her to fish, catching her first trout with him… eight actually. “Grampy” was his proudest name.
Lloyd leaves behind his wife, Dale , daughter Jana, son-in-law Dominic, granddaughter Rose. They will continue his tradition of fishing on the Bay and keeping his memory alive with so many stories filled with love and laughter. His siblings, including his loving sister Charlene (Macky), brothers Wayde & Wyatt, and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped make Lloyd’s last weeks more comfortable, who brought food for him and his family, visited, and shared last days with him. The medical staff who helped so much in this brief but difficult time: the extra-mural team and home care worker who helped make more time in his home possible; the palliative care staff and doctors at the Campbellton Regional Hospital with their sincerity and compassion for him and his family.
The family will not be holding a service, but ask that anyone who knew Lloyd raise a can of BudLight in his memory.
In lieu of flowers, Lloyd’s family would request a donation to the Restigouche SPCA, where Lloyd’s best friend and number one companion, Jack, was adopted from.
