Lionel Léger, 98, formerly of Montréal,
passed away on Friday December 2, 2022 at the Cormier Pavilion of
Faubourg du Mascaret in Moncton. Born in Scoudouc, he was the son of
the late Dominique and Zélica (Gaudet)
Léger.
Lionel studied at Collège Saint-Joseph in
Memramcook. He moved to Montréal where he made a career as
a customs officer at Dorval Airport. There he met the love of his
life, Yolande Mathieu, and together they lived many memorable moments
surrounded by friends with whom they spent evenings of music, dancing
and long trips. He was a proud man, often with his tie around his neck
and his Sunday shirt. He was interested in the news and had a vivid. A
man of great religious faith, he always had a rosary
handy.
He is survived by one sister, Edith Bourque (late Oscar) of
Shediac; two brothers-in-law: Alderic McCaie and Joseph
“Joe” Thibodeau, both of Moncton; one sister-in-law,
Mariette Boivin (late Marcel Mathieu) of Laval; two goddaughters:
Odette Léger (Richard) and Rachel Suffriti, as well as his
nieces and nephews: Roberte, Doris, Roger, Bernice, Donald and
Norman.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by his wife, Yolande
Mathieu (1999); five sisters: Rita (late Henri), Corinne,
Andréa, Yvonne and Albertine; and two brothers: Camille
(late Florence) and Hervé (late Rita).
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix
Roman Catholic Church, 87 Murphy Avenue, Moncton on Monday December 5
at 11 am. The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Monday from
10 am until time of departure (10:45). Interment will be at
Côte-des-Neiges cemetery in Montréal. In memory
of Lionel, a contribution to the Alzheimer Society or to Diabetes
Canada would be appreciated.
