Obituary
Surrounded by love, Lindbergh (Len) Wilson Oldford, passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on Sunday, August 28th, 2022 at the age of 90. Left to mourn with loving memories are his wife of 56 years, Mary (Colbert) Oldford, his cherished daughter, Cathy Efford and very special son-in-law, Sean Efford. His pride and joy was his loving granddaughter, Caitlin Efford. He also leaves to mourn, his dear sister-in-law and husband, Bridie & Dave Ryan. As well, his nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Kay Oldford and Sandra Oldford and many caring friends.
Predeceased by his parents, Chesley & May Oldford, brothers, Max Oldford and Ralph Oldford as well as parents-in-law, Annie & Michael Colbert and special niece, Denise Ryan.
Born in Burnside, Bonavista Bay on October 23rd, 1931 until the age of 16 where he attended MUN summer school and taught as a teacher in British Harbour, Trinity Bay. His love of airplanes and electricity then lead to his 10 years of service in the Royal Canadian Airforce representing NATO and travelling and living around the globe in the 1950’s. After getting married in 1966, he built his home and family and lived in Mount Pearl. As a proud veteran, he returned to Newfoundland and worked and retired from the Federal Government as an Inspector of Gas & Electricity after 25 years of service. His love of knowledge was inspiring as he had a passion for reading and learning. He wanted to know the latest technologies and how they worked. He built his own homes and did all the electrical and plumbing and was very proud to pass on his knowledge and tools to his son-in-law, Sean. After decades of family camping with lifelong friends and creating cherished family memories, he built a cottage in Burnside and spent summers there after being away from Burnside for 60 years. His favourite pass time was always the quality time he spent with his treasured granddaughter, Caitlin.
Dad was a kind, generous and loving man that always saw the positive side of things. He provided encouragement, kindness, support and words of wisdom. He provided a selfless love to his wife and family and always went over and above for his family’s needs. His brilliant mind and knowledge will be thoroughly missed as well as the long conversations and quality time spent with Cathy, Sean and Caitlin.
