Lillian Rourke Van Iderstine 1937 2022

Lillian (Van
Iderstine) Rourke passed away peacefully with her family by her side,
at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, N.S. on March 3, 2022. Born on April
13, 1937 to David and Edna Van Iderstine of Murray Harbour P.E.I. She
is survived by her daughter Lisa Clark (John),Valley, N.S., sisters
Pearle Frye Toronto ON, Mary Barrett (David) Beaver Bank, N.S. and
Edith Hawkins of Fenelon Falls ON., brother Carle Van Iderstine
(Helen) Riverview, N.B., many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is
predeceased by her loving husband David Rourke and her beloved brother
Fred Van Iderstine (Ruth) Dartmouth, N.S.
Lillian ran a
hair dressing business from her home for many years. Later together
with her husband, they ran a Bed and Breakfast from their home.
Lillian also worked for several years for Northumberland Ferries from
both the Wood Islands and Caribou offices.
Lillian had a
great passion for life, she and David were avid square dancers. They
also enjoyed attending many musical events and concerts . She was a
motivator, and worked tirelessly herself for her community, helping in
any way she could. She loved organizing interesting classes and events
for the Community School, hosting and participating in card parties
and attending Ceilidhs. She also had a keen eye for a bargain and
could often be found scanning for treasures with her friends at the
annual Ten Mile Yard Sale.
With a great
sense of humour Lillian had a special knack for telling stories,
particularly the humorous ones! Although she spent the last few years
in Nova Scotia she was always an “Island girl” and is now
going home to the place that she loved the best. Her Island friends
were a very important part of her life. She will be truly missed by
both her many friends and her family.
There will be
a family service held early in the summer at the Murray Harbour
Cemetery. A reception for family and friends at the Murray Harbour
Community Centre is currently being planned.
